The Comic Project

Just now I stumbled upon this wonderful blog titled The Comic Project via balancing life. The blog attempts to revive the old charm of all those Indrajal Comics heroes that enthralled us during our growing years. Before Diamond Comics captured a major portion of the market, Indrajal Comics was the main staple for us comic-hungry kids.
Among Bahadur, Flash Gordan, Mandrake, Vetal etc., Vetal (Phantom) who lived in the dark jungles of Denkali used to be my favorite. They used to call him chalta phirta pret — the walking phantom. I had a fat comic that traced the history of all the five generations of the phantom, but can’t remember where or how I lost that gem.
When I used to live with my grandparents in Ambala, whenever my mother came visiting me, she used to bring some Indrajal comics that she would buy at the railway station for me. Those comics were the fragments of my life that I had left behind in Delhi. I couldn’t read much, but with some concentration I could follow the story. The mere sight of the logo used to incite the feeling of that room in our Delhi house where many a time I had flipped through the pages of such comics and read the story through the sketches. Since I couldn’t read much, I constructed the stories from the sketches of the comics.
Since Hindi was (still is, to some degree) closer to me, I mostly read Hindi comics; in fact where we lived, we never saw English comics.

Hi!
Even I spent my childhood reading on a good staple of Indrajal Comics. I collected lots of issues till they published. But due to further studies and job I missed all those books back home and I dunno whether it is there or not.
I swear, it was simply the best. I read lots of comics. But Indrajaal comics was un paralleled. My mom and my uncle were fond of this.
Yesterday, I stumbled upon this the Comics Project and I feel I have dived into my childhood fantasy. Long live the comics project. My wishes are with them man. Go man go

I must share a news, my friend Rajeev (Who by the way is Lt Col in Army) happend to spend his annual leave at NOIDA few days back. Since I was also there we caught on with our childhood memories as well as our passion for Indrajal Comics. Since I still have a lot of them so he spent days going through them. Imagine two grown up FAUZI Officer ie one Army and one AirForce engrossed with Phantom, Mandrake ,Flash Gordon and Bahadur comics scattrered every where.

In my growing days, Indrajal comics were part of my staple diet. How can I forget the many wonderful hours I spent reading these literary treasures and the immortal characters that have been created; the Phantom, Mandrake, Bahadur, Flash Gordon, Rip Kirby, Bruce Lee and many more? I owe it all to Indrajal comics for driving away boredom and infusing the gift of imagination and creativity in me. We must revive the spirit for the coming generation, before it is truly forgotten.
