Says confused on his blog, referring to a column by Swaminathan S in The Times of India titled Ten commandments for Dr. Singh. Confused says:
The most amusing thing is our austere Prime Minister, Dr Singh while lecturing those who have at least earned their own money fails to look at the sheer wastage his own government indulges. Lutyens Delhi is a first world capital in a third world country, inhabited almost exclusive by politicians and top bureaucrats. Each of the ministerial bungalows are worth no less than 100 crores but our aam aadmi ministers live there conveniently while lecturing the rest of India on how to behave.
If you are not aware of the context, recently Manmohan Singh lectured in a FICCI meeting and preached to the industrialists that they should receive lesser remunerations.
Our ministers never practice what they preach. They are the proverbial Hindi movie characters often termed as safedposh lutere (thieves in white garbs). Although nobody in his or her right mind would call Manmohan Singh a thief (even to steal he’ll have to ask Soniaji first), he, being a minister, has no moral right to lecture hardworking managers and CEOs. A big chunk of our national resources are spent on our ministers, so if austerity should begin, it should begin with our politicians.
