A zoo is a cruel place, no matter what rosy pictures are painted. Animals are captured from their natural habitat, they are taken away from their families and the loved ones, they are beaten and kept hungry to subdue them, and then they are locked inside small enclosures.
The supporters of zoos say that they help raise awareness among the people, but is watching a lion in a cramped cage awareness? When we look at it do we get even the tiniest idea of how the animal lives, hunts and protects itself? It’s far better to see the wildlife on the Discovery channel.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has released a new advertisement featuring Rahul Khanna. The tagline of the advertisement is:
Beaten, Shackled, Abused: Elephants Don’t Belong in Zoos
It’s often heartbreaking to watch such a majestic animal chained and contained.
We definitely need more such campaigns.

I am very much agree with you. But, now-a-days, you might have read and heard of poachers who kill endanger animals in jungles. And at least animals are safe in zoos and santuaries. Think about it. Its my independent opinion and i am slso not going to disagree with yours.
Hi Rishi. I agree that in zoos they are not killed by the poachers, but no matter how unsafe your city becomes, given a choice, would you like to live in a jail or outside? In the sanctuaries they are killed, but they are free as long as they live.
Yes, animals are killed in the wild by poachers, but they’re life still has to be better than living in a cage! That’s why we have to try and stop poachers from killing the animals in the wild. I agree that animals aren’t killed by poacher in zoo’s but they still die. Animals do not belong in captivity!!!
yes, i strongly belive that anmials dont belong in zoo’s !
they are meant to live free not being stuck in a cag
i agree that animals should not be killed but they dont belong in captivity either! its cruel and the zookeepers even quoted ” you have to beat them to motivate them” that is very disturbing! and the owners only care about the profits not the animals, “i dont have time for the animals with everything else going on” quoted from an owner in the San Diego zoo. this is what needs to be stopped.
