Are today’s females to blame for female feticide prevalent in India?

See we have become very enlightened. We have many relationships in our hearts and between our legs. We never hesitate in pubbing and clubbing and visiting disc but when its time to get married, again we got the best of BOTH traditional and modern world. We get married with our parents’ money. We try to follow Americans by speaking, writing and having a good time like them, but when it comes to marriage expenses we again become coy traditional Mummy and Daddyji’s little girls. I have seen very few FEMALES who insisted during marriage that they will mange their fridge, TV, furniture, cutlery etc. The more we can extract from our parents the better. [ Disguised Bahenji ]
I’d rather call them opportunistic. Unfortunately, female feticide is an old phenomenon in India and it continues because most girls conveniently carry on being burdens on their parents and not an asset. They flaunt their “independence” and “modernity” but become coy brides when it’s time to tie the knot. The fetuses have to pay the price. The female feticide will only stop when girls become truly independent and stop being the exploiters.

nothing can be done unless the laws are tightned .. and that will never happen. it’s becoming a scarier place by the day. just read in the paper that a 15 yr old girl bled to death in the city cos the people were busy attacking the errant driver … she was lying there on the road, bleeding for a good 30 mins. she could’ve been saved only if someone had the good sense to take her to the hospital immediately. sorry, steered away from the topic, but this is the general state of thinking and sensitivity of the people.
but I dont think every woman does that after marriage…some are independant in the right sense, I mean not sucking on their parents!
i dont think the issue is that simple. another way of over simplifying it is by holding the view that until recently, girls were never truly given independence, so where can one expect them to get it suddenly when they havent been “allowed” to have it their entire life?
I’m sure there are some who exploit the convention that doesnt require them be independent. but there are also others who try to be independent but are not given the chance of a free reign to roam in search of it. So not only do they have to deal with the pressuer of over-protective parents, but they have to deal with such criticism once they enter family life.
Its an interesting question which can only ring partly true, but its important not to forget that the question has not been entirely answered in just asking it.
