Sean L. Sykes, 33, was sentenced Tuesday. He was found guilty in May of having unprotected sex with a St. Joseph woman without telling her he was HIV-positive. Testimony at his trial — which was closed to the public to protect witnesses — indicated that he had exposed at least eight women to HIV. At least three have tested positive.
Sykes was convicted in 1997 of knowingly exposing someone to HIV. He was given the maximum sentence of 10 years, but was paroled in 2003. Scroggins said Sykes has had “numerous” other unknown sexual contacts since he first tested positive 16 years ago. [ Man With HIV Gets Life Term for Sex ]
Such people deserve no sympathy and consideration. I don’t think there is someone in the “aware” world who doesn’t know that AIDS can be spread by having sex. This was totally a diabolical act. A few months ago this happened in India too. A casual worker from Bihar went to Mumbai. He contacted AIDS there after visiting the red light area repeatedly. When doctors told him that he had AIDS, he returned to his village. There he had two wives and he infected both of them. There have been many such instances in India.

These men must be deeply misogynistic. This, at the very least, is negligent homicide, at most first degree murder. Left up to me, I’d put him in prison and withhold his medication.
I know what you mean. Even I’d like to do something similar. I think such acts are grosser than cold blooded murders and the punishment should be so severe that an example can be set.
