Paris Hilton is finally released from jail and she calls the experience ‘traumatic’, she told this to none other than Larry King. You must be thinking why the heck do I write about Paris Hilton on this blog. She is the quintessential embodiment of our (in India too we have this problem) socio-cultural mentality where glitter is always gold. Just imagine: you get busted for a driving offence, you serve a tiny-winy jail term, the sheriff sends you home and then you are jailed again due to the media-bashing, you come out, and then Larry King interviews you to know how you feel.
A few days ago when I checked Technorati ”Paris Hilton” was the most popular search term. Love her or hate it, she is a phenomenon. She teaches you how to be famous and even influential by just having lots of fun (and accidentally releasing porn video featuring you here and there). When we were getting The Asian Age Paris Hilton used to appear in its glamour supplement almost daily. Why? We could never figure out.

This is really gruesome and outrageous, but one only feels impotent fury. Impotent fury because immediately you cannot do much for the victims. If you look at the pictures, they don’t even look like policemen: what sort of police tortures helpless victims wearing masks? I’m putting this link here because as it happens in the west, the mainstream media in India doesn’t cover such “sensitive” issues. Please spread this link around.

Everybody must have heaved a sigh of relief when NASA’s space shuttle Atlantis carrying seven astronauts, including Sunita Williams, landed safely at Edwards Air Force Base in California, especially after all the hiccups. First there were technical problems and then the inclement weather played the spoil sports.
The landing at 12:49 p.m. Pacific time came after NASA had passed up four chances on Thursday and Friday to land at Kennedy Space Center in Florida because of rain and low clouds in the area. [ Space Shuttle Lands in California Desert ]
All this time when Sunita Williams was trying to come back people in India were performing public prayers and performing yagnas for her safety. All news channels were continuously telecasting people in various cities performing various religious or clutish rites. Again, when the news of the safe landing broke people came on the streets to rejoice. It was as if only Sunita Williams was there in the space shuttle. Most of the newspapers today have headings like Sunita Williams returns after record stay in space and Children pray for Sunita didi, and even as far as Sunita signals a new high for women. The Vishwa Gujarati Samaj has decided to felicitate her.

A brief encounter with a Jewish prostitute may have led to Hitler’s genocidal Holocaust, claim psychiatrists.
…
According to a report, mental and behavioural disturbances triggered by the advanced stages of the disease could have resulted in Hitler targeting Jews and the mentally retarded.
There is “ample circumstantial evidence” for the theory, according to a team headed by psychiatrist Dr Bassem Habeeb.
He said: “If Hitler’s life is looked at through the lens of a syphilis diagnosis, one clue leads to another until a pattern of infection and progressive infection emerges, a disease that may have defined him from youth as an outsider and that progressively ravaged his body and mind.” [ Did Hitler unleash the Holocaust because a Jewish prostitute gave him syphilis? ]
That’s interesting. I was very disturbed when I saw the The Pianist in which the German soldiers treat the Jews as if they are insects. Considering the kind of cruelties perpetrated at that time, and with so much vehemence and hatred, did an entire portion of the German population contract syphilis? I don’t think he personally raped and killed and scalded people or peeled off their skin; the others did. I think there was something deeper than a disease. It was something like a mass-demonization.

See we have become very enlightened. We have many relationships in our hearts and between our legs. We never hesitate in pubbing and clubbing and visiting disc but when its time to get married, again we got the best of BOTH traditional and modern world. We get married with our parents’ money. We try to follow Americans by speaking, writing and having a good time like them, but when it comes to marriage expenses we again become coy traditional Mummy and Daddyji’s little girls. I have seen very few FEMALES who insisted during marriage that they will mange their fridge, TV, furniture, cutlery etc. The more we can extract from our parents the better. [ Disguised Bahenji ]
I’d rather call them opportunistic. Unfortunately, female feticide is an old phenomenon in India and it continues because most girls conveniently carry on being burdens on their parents and not an asset. They flaunt their “independence” and “modernity” but become coy brides when it’s time to tie the knot. The fetuses have to pay the price. The female feticide will only stop when girls become truly independent and stop being the exploiters.

Too often we go through life on autopilot, going through the motions and having each day pass like the one before it.
That’s fine, and comfortable, until you have gone through another year without having done anything, without having really lived life.
That’s fine, until you have reached old age and look back on life with regrets.
That’s fine, until you see your kids go off to college and realize that you missed their childhoods. [ 39 Ways to Live, and Not Merely Exist ]
Life runs in fast-forward when you don’t do things that you think you’ll do tomorrow and then tomorrow too you do the same what you did yesterday — decided to do those things tomorrow. A line in a song says ??????????? ??? ??? ???? ?????, ??????????? ??? ?? ???? ???? ?? (you cannot beg for life, you have to move forward and snatch it). So if you want to do something, just do it. Don’t leave it for tomorrow. Sometimes, tomorrow never comes.

I think the Congress should be indebted to President Kalam for helping Sonia Gandhi orchestrate the famous “sacrifice” that elevated her to the stature of Bharatmata. Had Kalam not intervened, she would have become the prime minister and then three things would have happened:
- She wouldn’t have been able to commit the gargantuan “sacrifice” and wouldn’t have been so revered as she is now.
- The nation and the world would have been exposed to her leadership qualities and we would have seen how she worked when she was held accountable.
- We wouldn’t have been able to realize what prodigal servilities lurked in the dark intellectual depths of Manmohan Singh.

The Prudent Indian calls Pankaj Vohran (whoever he is) the Chamcha in Chief for praising the way the Congress has chosen its presidential candidate. I like the way the prudent Indian has inserted his//her remarks.
The selection of Rajasthan Governor Pratibha Patil as the UPA-Left candidate for the presidential election has sent two signals to the political circles. First, Patil could become the first woman to occupy the august office and by choosing her, the UPA-Left combine has tried to reach out to the women constituency.
So the spinning starts right from the very fist ball bowled… “…could become the first woman to occupy the august office…??? blatant lie and an after thought Mr.Vohara.

Considering the kind of crap leaders (the Congress, the Left, the AIADMK, Laloo, Mulayam, etc.) we choose, I think before getting a voter ID card it should be mandatory to go through a short, basic “test of reasoning”. I don’t know how it can be possible, but there is some way to make out whether a person can/should vote or not. It will take some time, maybe 5-10 years, but once this process is in motion we’ll have a better democracy. With computers it will be possible.
